What is Claude?

Claude is Anthropic's family of large language models, available as a chat assistant on web and mobile and via API for developers. Claude is frequently highlighted for long-context handling (useful for analyzing large documents or codebases in one pass), careful step-by-step reasoning, and strong performance on coding tasks. The free tier offers access with usage limits; the Pro plan increases usage and adds access to more capable models and features like Projects, which let you organize related conversations and reference documents. Claude also powers Claude Code, a command-line coding agent, and is available through Anthropic's API for developers building their own applications. Anthropic has publicly emphasized AI safety research as part of its approach to model development.
